विश्व पर्यावरण दिवस कब मनाया जाता है और क्यों?
Badrinath or Badrinarayan Temple is a Hindu temple located on the banks of the Alaknanda River in the Chamoli district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu and this place is one of the most sacred places described in this religion, the Char Dhams. After the name of the temple, the town around it is also called Badrinath. Geographically, the place is located between the highest peaks of the Himalayan range, in the Garhwal region, at an altitude of 3,133 meters (10,279 ft) above sea level. Due to the harsh weather conditions of the Himalayan region during the winter season, the temple is open only for a limited period of six months of the year (from the end of April to the beginning of November). It is one of the busiest pilgrimage sites in India; Around 10.6 lakh pilgrims were recorded here in 2012.
"Badrinarayan", a form of the Hindu god Vishnu, is worshiped in the Badrinath temple. Here, there is a 1 meter (3.3 ft) long statue of him made of Shaligram, which is believed to have been installed by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century after taking it out of the nearby Narad Kund. This idol is considered by many Hindus as one of the eight Swayam Vyakta Kshetras (self-manifested images) of Vishnu. Although this temple is located in North India, the chief priest here, called "Raval", is a Brahmin of the Namboodiri sect from the state of Kerala in South India. Badrinath Temple was included in the Uttar Pradesh State Government Act – 30/1948 under the Temple Act – 16/1939, which later came to be known as "Shri Badrinath and Shri Kedarnath Temple Act". At present, a seventeen-member committee nominated by the Government of Uttarakhand administers both the Badrinath and Kedarnath temples.
